Identity Verification and the IRS

The IRS has transitioned to a new sign-in and identity verification system for these online applications:

  • Online Account:

Securely access individual account information, including the total amount owed, payment history, Economic Impact Payments, payment plan details, and more.

  • Get Transcript Online:

Obtain various Form 1040-series transcript types online or by mail.

  • Online Payment Agreement:

Apply for a payment plan online to pay off your balance over time.

  • Get an Identity Protection Pin (IP PIN)

Obtain or retrieve an IP PIN, which is a six-digit number that prevents someone else from filing a tax return using another person's Social Security number (SSN) or Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN).

To use one of the above services, you will now need to create an ID.me account.

Go to id.me, click sign in, then click the Create an ID.me Account under New to ID.me? and choose a verification method:

-Self–Service:The fastest method to verify; usually takes 5-10 minutes.

-Video call:You will upload your document, then join a quick video call.
